Learn How to incorporate permaculture principles into your cultivation practices!
Robbin and Ellen Pott will talk about how to apply permaculture principles to building a cannabis company. Permaculture is a philosophy about how to live in balance with the world. Permaculture principles provide a framework for making decisions that lead to sustainability and self-sufficiency. Pott Farms uses this framework to develop every aspect of their company. They will explain the permaculture approach to making decisions and use their work as examples of how to put these principles into practice.

Robbin Pott is a lawyer and researcher from the University of Michigan Law School and Ford School of Public Policy. She spent ten years working for the U of M, the last six at the Law School’s Child Advocacy Law Clinic where she held three simultaneous appointments – executive director of the multidisciplinary civil legal aid program called the Detroit Center for Family Advocacy, assistant director of the National Quality Improvement Center on the Representation of Children in Child Welfare, a federally funded national research project where she studied the impact of social workers on child wellbeing outcomes, and she also served as a staff attorney representing children and parents in child protection proceedings. She has expertise leading and studying social worker collaborations and has published her work in peer-reviewed journals. Her strength is program leadership and she has extensive executive experience. Her skills include planning and implementing innovative projects, fundraising, budgeting, financial oversight, contracting, data management and analysis, reporting, and regulation compliance. She has started two Michigan nonprofit corporations and is dedicated to community service, serving on multiple nonprofit boards and advisory committees. She also loves to garden. Robbin leads operations and overall company strategy.
Ellen Pott has also spent the last nine years working in the nonprofit sector dedicated to eradicating poverty. Her professional experience includes planning, budgeting, promoting, implementing and evaluating programs and has extensive volunteer management experience. She uses lean innovation strategies to understand and provide meaningful experiences within her programs. Ellen also has a passion for programs designed to diversify leadership. She has partnered with dozens of fire, emergency services, and law enforcement agencies in Tucson, AZ, to create Camp Fury, a high adventure career exploration camp for teen girls with the goal of increasing the number of women in public service careers. She developed a Camp Fury program guide to support its replication in other cities. In 2017, over a dozen cities hosted a public safety camp for teen girls using the model outlined in the program guide. Ellen has many years’ worth of volunteer experience with domestic violence survivors, homelessness, and public art. She has a BFA with high honors from the University of Arizona and has multiple awards for her artwork. She has publically exhibited her work over the past four years, which often focuses on societal harms to women and girls. As an artist, she sparks conversations that are taboo in society with the goal of igniting change. Ellen leads marketing, sales, and human resources.
The Pott sisters come from careers dedicated to improving the lives of low-income children and families. Robbin is a lawyer and researcher from the University of Michigan Law School, where she directed and studied programs that employed social workers to improve outcomes for children in child welfare. Ellen is a nonprofit professional and artist with years of experience creating and implementing innovative programs that provide opportunities for women and girls. We are now collaborating to build a new kind of business that is grounded in social responsibility.
